Wood & Resin Care Guide

Caring for your handmade furniture helps preserve its natural beauty and ensures it lasts for years to come.

Desks, Tables, Shelves & More

Each piece is crafted from solid wood, a living material that will subtly change and mature over time. With a little love and care, it will continue to age gracefully.

Cleaning wood and resin products

Clean gently with a mild solution of washing-up liquid and warm water, using a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Dry — Immediately wipe with a dry cloth to remove any moisture, then allow the furniture to air dry in a well-ventilated space.

Dust — Wipe away loose dust and dirt with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.

Prepare — Mix a few drops of mild washing-up liquid into a bowl of warm water. Avoid using too much soap—less is more.

Wipe — Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the solution, wring it out thoroughly until just damp, and gently wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain.

Avoid intense sunlight

Epoxy resin is sensitive to UV light, which can cause discolouration and damage over time. Keep your epoxy resin items away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight whenever possible. If displaying them near windows, consider using UV-protective film on the glass.

Prevent Scratches

To preserve the surface integrity of your resin pieces, take preventative measures against scratches:

Avoid sharp objects: Keep sharp objects away from your resin surface to prevent deep scratches and gouges.

Use coasters and placemats: When your resin items are used as tabletops or serving areas, always use coasters and placemats to prevent scratches from glassware and plates.

Repair Small Scratches

If you notice minor scratches on your resin piece, there’s no need to panic. You can often buff them out with some careful attention:

Polish the surface: Use a suitable polishing compound with a soft cloth to restore the shine after sanding.

Sand lightly: Begin with a fine-grit sandpaper (such as 1200 grit) to gently sand the scratched area in a circular motion.

Chopping & Serving Boards

Cleaning

After each use:

  • Wipe with warm water and a mild washing-up liquid using a soft, damp cloth.
  • Rinse lightly and dry immediately with a clean towel.
  • Stand upright or on its edge to air dry completely before storing.

For occasional deep cleaning or to remove odours:

Wipe clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry fully before re-oiling.

If additional antibacterial cleaning is required, use a food-safe solution such as diluted white vinegar or Osmo Anti Bac Wood Cleaner, both of which are gentle yet effective on natural wood. Please rinse thoroughly with water before next use.

Protection

To preserve the natural beauty of your board:

Never put your board in a dishwasher — the combination of heat and moisture will damage the wood.

Avoid placing hot, wet or dirty pans directly on the surface.

Do not allow liquids to pool — standing water can cause swelling or staining.

Always use the board on a clean, stable surface and rotate its use to promote even wear.

Maintenance

When water beads on the surface, your board is well protected.

When the wood appears dull or begins to absorb moisture, it’s time to reapply oil.

For light marks or surface wear, sand gently with fine-grit paper (180–240 grit) in the direction of the grain, then reapply oil.

If deep cracks or splits develop that cannot be restored, it may be time to replace your board.

Hygiene

For the best food hygiene:

Clean thoroughly after contact with raw ingredients and re-oil once dry to reseal the surface.

Use separate boards for raw meats, fish, and ready-to-eat foods.

Avoid

Harsh chemicals, bleach or abrasive cleaners.

Soaking or prolonged exposure to water.

Direct sunlight or high heat sources during storage.

Sealing the board with cooking oils such as olive or vegetable oil, which can spoil over time.

Re-oiling

Regular oiling keeps your board nourished and water-resistant. Use Mineral Oil for Wood (or another food-safe mineral oil) and reapply as needed whenever the surface feels dry — this may be weekly or monthly, depending on usage.

  1. Apply a thin, even layer of oil across the surface using a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2. Allow 20–30 minutes for the oil to soak in.
  3. Wipe away any excess and leave to dry for 6–8 hours before use.
Storage

Store your board upright in a dry, well-ventilated space.

Ensure it is completely dry before storing to prevent warping or mildew.
