A Piece You’ll Own for Life

Unlike flat-pack furniture, solid oak develops more character over time. Small marks, rich colour changes and the natural ageing of the oak tell the story of your home.

It’s furniture that’s made to be lived with—and made to last.

A note on our green oak

Our oak console tables are made using fresh green oak, sourced just 3–4 months after felling. Unlike kiln-dried timber, green oak retains a higher natural moisture content. This is part of what makes working with freshly felled oak distinctive, and means the timber can continue to release moisture as it settles into its new environment.

Because each table is made from natural, locally sourced timber, you may notice a few characteristics on arrival:

  • Natural moisture: You may occasionally notice slight dampness around the ends of the timber as it releases moisture. If this occurs, simply wipe the surface with a clean sponge or soft cloth.
  • Fresh oak aroma: Green oak has a distinctive, earthy, woody scent. This is a natural characteristic of the timber and may be more noticeable when the table has been wrapped for transport.
  • A freshly oiled finish: We treat the oak with wood oil before dispatch to protect and enhance its natural character. The finish may initially feel slightly tacky while the oil settles and cures, particularly after being wrapped for shipping. Allow the table to breathe in a well-ventilated room and follow any care instructions supplied with your order.

Every piece of oak is different. Natural grain, knots, colour variations and the character of freshly worked timber are part of the material’s appeal.

At Oceanic Woodstore, we choose to work with the character of real wood rather than remove it through industrial processing. Your table is made to be lived with, and the timber may continue to change subtly as it dries and adjusts to its surroundings.

Oak is a natural material, and with larger pieces like this, you can expect to see some character in the form of natural splits, grain patterns and surface markings as the timber responds to changes in temperature and humidity.

These features are part of the natural character of the wood and are not unusual for a piece of this size. Each block of oak is unique, which is part of what makes them so lovely.
