About the experience
Slow down, work with solid oak, and create something both beautiful and practical.
In this relaxed two-hour workshop, you’ll craft your own heavy solid oak doorstop using traditional woodworking techniques. You’ll learn how to shape, sand and finish the timber by hand before adding your choice of natural rope or metal handle to complete your piece.
No previous woodworking experience is needed. We’ll guide you through every stage, sharing the techniques and finishing touches that transform a simple block of oak into a timeless piece for your home.
You’ll leave with a handcrafted oak doorstop that’s built to last for decades—a practical reminder of a creative few hours spent making something with your own hands.

Your tutor
Founder of Oceanic Woodstore
Oceanic Woodstore was born in 2023 from a passion for making.
Today, Jim spends his days creating handcrafted furniture and welcoming guests into his riverside studio, where people can slow down, learn a new skill and rediscover the simple pleasure of making something with their own hands.
Every visitor who walks through our workshop doors becomes part of that story. Whether you’re casting your first piece of resin art or building something with timber, you’ll leave with more than a finished piece—you’ll leave with new skills, greater confidence, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from creating something with your own hands. It’s this feeling, as much as the finished work itself, that we hope you’ll take home with you.
